Becoming a Morelli Scholar is an honor to me. I read the Morelli story and related to every part of it. I struggled so much in school when I was younger and remember feeling embarrassed that I couldn’t read like others and felt even worse when they made fun of me. I worked hard to prove those people wrong and ended up in the top 25% of my class. I still read and process slower than others, but I realize that has nothing to do with my intelligence. Getting this award is a way for me to show others who struggle with dyslexia or other learning disabilities at my high school that they can do it too. It is also a good reminder to keep working and pushing forward to earn my degree in college, even when it gets hard.
